An only child from a broken home
Wrapped in an internal world
Others failed to understand
Blowing off the miasma that hung about us
Mother moved us away.
A new place gave a myriad of choices;
A chance to remake a life;
Shake off the past
And wake up to a present.
Creating a future of internal passions and desires
Born out of longing to be included.
But events don't leave you alone
Father died, sending a young soul back into hiding;
Hiding away from the plethora of choices.
A mild depression settled over a lonely pre-teen;
Darkening days into pale grey.
Lightless and alone;
With only writing to guide this young soul.
But with time
The sun began to shine again
And friends were made;
True friends who understood
And could empathize with this young soul.
Friends with hearts and minds
beyond that of petty children.
Friends still here today.
And with them, a blossoming;
Confidence was found in those introverted interests;
Interests that had once seemed odd.
This child became whole and true.
Gratitude still sings out their love and guidance.
God's blessing prevailed
As their lights showed the way.
Paying it forward
One tries to light the way for others
Lost on their path.
Life is not easy,
But with people who truly care
It is made easier
And it becomes not so dark and scary.

An only child from a broken home
Wrapped in an internal world
Others failed to understand
I blew off the miasma that hung about me
When my mother moved us away.
Though I loved the north,
I was misunderstood
And a new place gave a myriad of choices
I was able to remake myself
Shake the past
And wake up to my present
I was able to create a future of my own desires
But events don't leave you alone
My father's death send my back into myself
And away from the plethora of choices
I did not care.
I missed my Daddy.
I was now half an orphan.
A mild depression settled over my pre-teen soul
Darkening my days into pale grey.
Lightless and alone;
With only my writing to guide me.
But with time
The sun began to shine again
And I made friends;
True friends who understood me
And could empathize with who I really was.
Friends with hearts and minds
beyond that of petty children.
Friends I still have today.
And with them, I blossomed
Found confidence in those introverted interests;
Interests that had once seemed odd.
I came into my Self...
Whole and true.
I am grateful for their love and guidance.
I thank God I was blessed
With their lights to show me the way.
And to pay it forward
I try to light the way for others
Lost on their path.
Life is not easy,
But with people who truly care
It is made easier
And it becomes not so dark and scary.
