Somewhere on the Isle of Wight,
a castle on a mountaintop
was under siege.
The turret lookout was a vassal;
the castle deeded to a liege.
In shock, the vassal up and cried;
“Your liege, the castle is attacked!
The liege was shocked.
Yet liege, suspicious, said abruptly:
“Know this, vassal, I won’t be mocked!”
“Oh liege, I do not mock you!”
“Indeed, I saw a hoard of troops
approaching hence.”
The liege, incensed, then posed the question:
“Have they now breached the outer fence?”
“Yes, your liege, the fence is down.”
“Not only that, but soon they will
be at the moat.”
Continuing, the vassal triumphed:
“Don't worry though--relax and gloat!”
“And don't forget the drawbridge!”
“So you see, your liege, we are safe
from all attack.”
Yet catapults and burning oil,
wherein liege and vassal saw black.
