At the blush of dawn,
I stand beneath the ebony sky
watching day blossom
in a blaze of radiant splendor.

I witness
morning's blue daggers
slash through
the jugular veins of night

I ponder other mornings
when I watched
the battle between
night and day;
when the winds of dawn blew
across the battle field
as darkness bled out
into the interstellar void.

I realize
that darkness surrounds
and embraces
everything except light,
which penetrates
even the black void of intergalactic space
with its blistering beauty.
