Poem written in acrostic form revealing a secret that gave truth to the world.
Therein lies the simplest secret
To live, is but to keep it
It shall not serve us all
Avert the knowledge from thy tongue
Adieu it from whence memory comes
Undo it not before the throngs
It shall not serve us all
Semblances of everyday
Must cloak it from the prying ones
Rub the slate-preserve the way
Fact, must remain their fictions
Scour clean thy conscience-know
Foundations Death doth build upon
Subtract the work that made it so
Implicit rhymes shalt not be sung
It shall not serve us all
Livid as thy lips might be
Killing thee to spill thy truth
Offering up the praises of-
Free-spirited, the careless youth
It shall not serve us all
Indignations sure to rise-
Is love the one and only prize?
It shall not serve us all
Born to live and live to die
Most wicked then art Nature's plan
Cored out the apple from the Tree
Worn out the fellowship of Man
It shall not serve us all
Our loneliness acutely known
Of secret selves we have not shown
It shall not serve us all
Conscience, abate, for it is well
From revelations-lover's hell
Friendly heart now enemy
From liberty to tyranny
Guess fealty-saddened thou shalt find
Paramour, of other mind
Hearken brethren hear the plea!
It shall not serve us all
Sisters, have we not wept enough?
Stopped up our eyes, to cease the floods?
Leapt from the heights before the fall to-
Spring life into, the coming blood?
Mourn nothing.
It shall not serve us all.
