I have walked through the fire,
burned by life’s selfish desires,
singed by coals of hate and discontent,
wondering how long the flames will last.
Blackened smoke blinds my eyes,
leaving me feeling lost and hopeless,
smothered by the heat of betrayal,
with no one left to fully trust.
Blistered memories sting my heart,
as I slowly peel the dead skin of hurt,
layer by layer of charred emotions,
slowly giving glimpses of hope for tomorrow.
I have walked through the fire,
yet I am still here – a survivor.
I may have scars from the past,
but they will not define who I am.
