A group of people in an undersea craft. |
I retreat hurriedly into the passengers quarters - he's right, the head is no place for someone as inexperienced as me. Wow, that jellyfish had been huge. As far as I know, my mother still has nightmares about the shark that attacked her sub a few months ago. I haven't heard from her for a while. I hope she's ok. I stare out of my window, and shiver as the jellyfish floats back past. Really huge. Our sub dodges nimbly, and the jelly fades into the darkness. The lights turn from red to blue, meaning it's now safe for the passengers to move forward from the tail. That was a close one. Suddenly, the sub rocks to the side, and the lights go the deepest red I've ever seen them. A flash of neon blue streaks past my window, and I recognize the pattern of an eel. The eels are the most dangerous thing in the water, and over 200 subs a year are lost to attacks. I finish my journey to the head, and stare out of the front windows. The eel's jaw has hinged open, and it's racing toward us front on. We can't turn fast enough- We can't see the ocean any more. For the first time ever, the lights go out... ...and the shoal of lantern fish swim on, minus one. |
