Mahalia Jackson was a renown singer. She was full of talent and had a voice which soared and a heart which was full of the song. She would sing with great feeling resonating strongly that came through in her unique and wonderful singing of a gospel song. Popular opinion was that she did an awesome and superb job of singing “Amazing Grace”.
She won many awards for her singing talent.

The first gospel singer to have a regular show on network radio, she also chosen as an honoree In 1997, by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These are only a few of her accomplishments. She was involved in the civil-rights movement.

She was Born on October 26, 1911, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mahalia Jackson started singing as a child at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She died January 27, 1972, Evergreen Park, near Chicago, Illinois because of a heart seizure. Her parents were Mahalia Jackson grew up in a shotgun home which was often thought of as a house where a bullet fired through the front door would go right out the backdoor without hitting a wall,

Raised by her Aunt Duke after her mother died in 1917, economic circumstances she was forced to quit school and work at home unfortunately when she was in fourth grade. Although challenged by poverty, physically and having to work hard, she had such a strong desire to sing gospel that eventually she was able to sing in front of royalty.
