Prompt: "We are broken. That's how the light gets in." Ernest Hemingway.

I would agree with Hemingway to some extent. The reason I agree is based on my Christian faith. The Holy Bible tells us that man is broken because the relationship between God and man was severed by sin in the Garden of Eden. Now I am not expecting everybody to agree with this. I know there are people who do not share my faith and that is their choice. I respect that. However my choice is to believe and thus this entry is based on my belief. I believe that man is helpless to overcome his downfall and must depend on God to do for him what He cannot do for himself. God has made provision for man to be restored and that restoration is only possible through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Many believe that all roads lead to salvation but this simply is not the case. Jesus said in John 14: 6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes unto the Father except through me. New International Version.

If no one comes to the Father by any means but Jesus then all roads do not lead to heaven. All religions do not serve the same God and we are not all going to heaven. However we are all broken as Hemingway indicated. I do not know what light Hemingway was referring to but there is a Light. That Light is Jesus Christ. He is the Light of life. Jesus said that believers are also light. He meant that we have Him within us and we should be noticeably different from the rest of the world. We should shine with holiness and be an attraction to the rest of the world. This does not mean self-righteousness but instead that we should be peculiar to the world. Christians are called to love each other and the rest of the world. If we treat the world as Jesus treated the world then we will be the odd ones. This behavior will be peculiar and attractive. I'm not perfect by any means but I am saved. I try to treat people in a way that they know I care. This is attractive and makes me a light in the darkness. If this was what Hemingway meant then I agree with him.
