Flash fiction on meeting the future spouse's family for the first time |
| The moment I saw him, I knew I had found my match. He radiated latent power. From afar, I watched him walk and marveled at his poise and confidence. He was alone and I ogled as he swished by not even glancing at me. He disappeared for a while and that drove me mad. My feelings for him intensified every day. He returned one day but not alone. His sisters were with him and it was clear that he adored them. I knew I would be rebuffed if I approached him so I made friends with them instead. I spent many an hour with them waiting for the right moment. They sensed what I wanted but dared not help. He saw me with his family and it was obvious he liked me. His fiery eyes could not hide his desire. A few days later it happened. They were all sitting under their favorite tree. His sisters were fussing around him and I slowly walked towards them. As if on cue, they all left his side. I was nervous but kept going. Behind him I heard a low and deep roar. I stopped in my tracks. The resemblance was uncanny though she was bigger than him. She sat down a few feet from me and I knew she approved. A low purr emanated from him as he brushed up against me, his tail swishing in affection. He gently licked my face and as his whiskers tickled mine, I melted. I knew then that I was queen of the jungle. |
