Even in the shade, there was no relief.
It was a steamy August afternoon. The drought had the earth begging for a bit of rain.
We sat in the shade of the garage. Even in the shade, it was 92 degrees.
There was a hot breeze blowing up the driveway, seeming to rush your sister and her oddball boyfriend, unannounced, into our party.
We exchanged pleasantries, discussing the current events, family gossip and general news.
The sky began to darken.
Blackened storm clouds moved in, and the wind began to pick up.
A clap of thunder, and the skies opened.
We sat, staring at the rain for a bit, discussing how we really needed the scorched earth to drink.
I jumped up -
and began to dance in the cool rain.
You, my friend, joined me.
We were mocked by the oddball
"You're both over 50 - get out of the rain"
We screamed with laughter, splashing in the puddles, smiling.
The joy we felt was pure -
something he couldn't understand.
We may have gotten older, but we shall NEVER grow up!
