Flash fiction with the words 'I can't find it anywhere'

The expedition set off.

We had secured a large funding with much difficulty. A few people believed in our quest and they also had the finances to sponsor our trip.

It had begun snowing, slowing our progress up the mountain. The excitement and anticipation kept us going. There were six of us and three porters who grumbled incessantly.

We stopped at a small hamlet for this first night.

Breathing became difficult as we were already at 3000 meters above sea level.

We gobbled the rice and boiled lentils the locals gave us.

Jim, our leader talked to us that night about how it was going to get more difficult from the next day on. We shuddered as it had not been easy coming even this far.

The sun shone bright the next morning and we felt a bit warm with all the layers of clothing. The instructions were clear – no one was to remove anything as the chills got to you when you least expected it.

Evidence of human habitation lessened the higher up we went.

It was around five when Jim signaled for us to stop. He put his finger to his lip. He had heard something.

As we neared him, we all heard it. A low growl emanated from behind a gigantic boulder.

We took out our guns and crawled on all fours towards the stone behemoth.

There was nothing but a set of humongous footprints going away from the rock towards a ledge.

Jim whispered “I’m going to see what’s on the other side. Everyone stay here.”

No one protested.

He came back in a few minutes. “I can’t find it anywhere.”

There was a rush of wind and we were smothered by a heavy body and foul-smelling fur.

The Yeti was not a myth!
