Long past height of Halloween
black cat ambles ‘cross the field,
(soccer the game, Lady Jets and the Rays.)
Superstition rising,
fans in stands begin to shake…
feline curse—chilly wind from the north.
Kick the ball now there’s a score,
the Lady Rays unite.
But the cat has opened
doors of fear this day,
for everyone.
Ball of fur with razor claws,
strolling o’er athletic lawn,
one black cat changing life for them all…
…zombies bursting from the ground
emerging from the grave!
And the high-pitched screams
from fleeing fans are borne,
on winds a-bluster.
Both the soccer teams in panic
yet black cat so staid in quiet;
forces of dark by the cat who dared cross.
Once a cat so innocent (seemingly so lovable)
dashed across the field when the game
was the thing.
Yet the ground began to shake
with tremors felt across the state,
and hearts were failing
soccer fans from the fear.
Then a metamorphosis,
a lightning flash, a cloud of smoke;
and amongst confusion, fear and panic
the black cat disappeared.
