On the day before
the winter solstice,
I make sure I take notice
of the sun,
how low it appears
on the horizon,
how great the angle
of its rays glaring.
This second shortest day
deserves a look; it paves
the way for winter
solstice day.
The sun, having gone
south, takes his pause
while I see sunlight
glimmering about
like liquid pools
of yellow energy.
A mostly sunny day
invigorates, yet
on a cloudy day
the thought remains…
I think this day before
the shortest day is
reason for being mindful,
to think about our sole
supplier high, as well as
those ancient ancestors
who revered the sun,
who knew it was life.
