first attempt at poetry since middle school, prompted by reading about love in I Cor. 13 |
It's been said--love makes the world go round, that it's all we really need. Truth to which most people would be agreed. However, it takes more than that for the love of which we speak, to succeed. To love you must move toward it, Step into its light Embrace it, inhale it, make it your sight. To do less is to remain in darkness And not fulfill Love's right To love, you must want no other way to treat your brother. You see, love seeks the best Not satisfied with anything less for love transforms--our human quest. Why Love? You may ask. There are only two other options Yet neither is up to the task Of changing our world of darkness Into the light in which we seek to bask. One option is hate, an enemy we know so well. A tool of Satan, a destroyer of our minds. Bombings, shootings, abuses of every kind, Destruction and pain consume our internal selves, Has this worked, I ask, transformation to find? The other option is apathy, The feeling of indifference and unconcern. Couldn't care less when it comes your turn, The opposite of love, an emptiness of heart, to step up, speak up, truly do your part. So, love is the answer to our world in pain. Light offered and lived and everyone gains To love is the noblest of paths to take Difficult and strenuous, yet make no mistake, To truly live is to truly love and The ultimate change to make. |
