The Whatever Contest |
A: THE WHATEVER CONTEST PROMPT: Blue This prompt is in celebration of my promotion to Moderator! Blue what? Blue whatever. But your item must start shocked/surprised/etc., then turn to dark/horror/fear/scary/etc., then end excited/happy/successful/etc. Trembling, stunned, and suffering from brain fog, Mike sat with mouth agape, eyes wide, and tried to comprehend his awesome discovery. Thoughts whirling in a twister of chaos as he blinked and blinked and blinked. “Wow, this is so unbelievable!” Looking at his blue skin Mike thought about WDC and the promotion to a moderator. “gee, I wonder if all the moderators are blue?” Scratching his head stiff and aching he slowly raised himself from the stool after slaving over the book he was writing. Stumbling into the bathroom to brush his teeth Mike looked in the mirror. Going all day without clean teeth wasn’t a wonderful way to celebrate being promoted to a blue case moderator position. “Oh My goodness! What the heck is…how the..wait a minute!” Leaning closer to the mirror he focused for a more in-depth inspection. Hands shaking and sweat dripping from his chin Mike saw deep blue. Brushing his teeth and cleaning his mouth didn’t remove the deep blue and only made it a deeper hue. Seeing vivid and up close in the most personal way the seriousness of his situation he gulped and tried not to retch his breakfast into the sink. Everything was blue. This wasn’t a dream. Mike went into the kitchen to find it all blue, he scrambled to every room and all the rooms and content were blue. “BLUE, BLUE, BLUE! I HATE BLUE!" In the bathroom, he looked at his reflection and saw his mouth a much vibrant and deeper blue. A Minute later it was almost black. Holding his arms about him, stiff and focused Mike lunged for the door and ran into the office. Booting the computer and drumming his fingers, he punched the search term on the keyboard. Anxious to wash off the blue he rushed back to the bathroom, filled the bathtub, grabbed the bleach and hydrogen Peroxide from the kitchen, and charged to the bathroom snatching a towel. Pouring bleach into the tub, clambering in to soak, he cringed, but nothing harmful happened. Rinsing with Peroxide he paused to rest. After a 20 minute soak, he extracted himself from the tub, girded a faded towel, and looked into the mirror. White as a ghost, shriveled, and with skin pealing Mike groaned, grimaced, and hit the mirror. Blue was horrible but this, “blasted, I’m a shedding snake, hollowed freak, and my hair is falling out!” Rampaging to the kitchen he yanked the drawer which fell onto the floor, and mike dove to grab a knife. “I’m so done with this!” Raking the knife over his skin it peeled off exposing a worse horror. Blue, dark blue, and the awful smell of rotting flesh wafted to his nostrils. Gagging he wrinkled his nose and closing his eyes, Mike dropped to the floor. Finding himself on the bathroom floor Mike surveyed the room and blinked to clear his vision. Attending the big event loomed interrupting his thoughts jarring him into action for the big event, he hoisted himself upright, dashed to the bedroom, and after dressing, he ran down the steps to his car. Working his way through traffic, Mike remembered about being blue. In the rearview, there was no blue, and he felt and looked fine. Arriving at the WDC headquarters, mike couldn’t hold back any longer. “Yippie! I’m a blue case, I’m a moderator, I’m having the time of my life!” Entering the huge room with an ocean of people, Mike made his way to the stage on springs. Floating along with a huge smile on his face, everything in slow motion he wondered how he could be so very lucky. Mike shook with a start hearing his alarm ringing on the other side of the bedroom. This was his awesome and wonderful day to thoroughly enjoy. He was a senior moderator. He would be among WDC honored authors and have a wonderful time chatting with everyone in the virtual get-together. “But…I already did that didn’t I?” He thought, and then realized it was Wednesday the day for the get-together, so why did he think he had already done this before? 3929 characters, 697 words.
