Breathless excitement, swirling light
Torment and pleasure combined
In a perfume of sugar-spun dreams
The Ferris wheel circles once more
Then churns to a halt,

      Silent
        Dark
          Still

Begging for just one more ride
Children linger, despite urgings
From a wearied parent with visions:
Gratitude and love in their child’s eyes
A glass of wine, and

      Peace
        Solitude
         An empty room
