Kara feels the pressure mounting as her houseguest overstays his welcome.
Kara half-stumbled, half-waddled through the kitchen door, grocery bags spilling from her arms.

“Here let me help you with that” said Jared reaching for the bags slipping from Kara’s grasp.

“Thanks, I guess it pays to have a temporary roommate after all!” said Kara dropping the rest of her bags onto the floor. A nearly imperceptible tensing of his shoulders and she knew it had been the wrong thing to say. He shrugged, and turned his back to her busying himself with removing items from the bags. She stifled the sigh caught in her throat, frustrated by the feeling of constantly walking on egg shells in her own apartment.

“Have any plans for the day ahead?” she asked him, casually slipping the words between reaching for the bread and placing the paper towels under the sink. He ran a hand through his hair now long enough to curl behind his ears, and scratched at the month’s worth of growth on his chin. He seemed almost surprised to find it had grown so long, but did not respond.

She felt her annoyance growing to anger. She was fed up with his indecision and inaction, enough was enough.

“That’s it. While I enjoy your company, I preferred it more when your primary residence was in the unit upstairs not my guest room. It’s time to decide between the walnut or the oak. The renovations have been done for a month. Now get out of my house and order yourself a bedroom set!”
