Michael's mom receives a gift he has made especially for her. |
The Gift WC 226 My son Michael pulled an oddly shaped gift from under the tree. It was beautifully wrapped in the Sunday funnies by this precious 5-year-old. He placed the present in my lap. “For me?” I asked. “I made it myself,” he said, his chest all puffed out. “Well, Daddy helped me a little bit.” I looked over at my husband, he smiled. I unwrapped my gift. Hmmm? It was made of pine and the size of a large cutting board. An unusual cardboard teepee and a patch of artificial grass were glued to the top. I had absolutely no idea what it was. I waited for a clue from little Michael or Big Michael; none was forthcoming. “Wow, Sweetie, it is amazing. Thank you so much.” “I knew you needed one, Mommy. Daddy said so.” “I did. I do. For sure.” At this point, my husband was stifling a laugh. My mother chimed in. “What is it, Rosemary?” "It is something I really needed, Mom, according to my two Michaels.” I could tell that my mother did not have a clue either and was sorry she had asked. “Well, who wants more eggnog?" she said as she escaped to the kitchen. I may never find out what this unique masterpiece is, but I know it was made with pure love. I will cherish it forever…whatever it is. |
