Calculated Advice

“Ray! Hey you can probably tell me!” Jeff said, excitedly.

“Tell you what?”

“I’m looking for a place to take Rana to dinner. I want it to be impressive, but not too expensive. What do you think of Dandro’s Place.”

“Not too expensive... Are you short on cash? I could loan you...”

“No, no that’s not it. I just don’t know if I like Rana enough to waste good cash on her.”

“What?”

“Well, you know. She’s cute and fun, but come on, she’s probably not a serious relationship. I don’t want to waste good money on her.”

“Oh... well... Dandro’s... it’s Ok, not too expensive like you said. I’ve been there a few times. My friend Joey said he took a date there once, and when I asked him about it he said, ‘I never went back again. It wasn’t my cup of tea.’ Pretty funny huh.”

“Joe Welsh? I know Joey, if he never went back I think I might just pick somewhere else. Thanks!” off he went.

Ray watched him go. He’s been waiting to ask Rana out for a while, if she accepted a date with Jeff, this may be the time to get up his nerve and ask her out himself. He’d bring her to Dandro’s which was actually his uncle’s restaurant. He’d worked there part time for years. It was perfect. Not a start for an “iffy” relationship, but a wonderful place to start a very serious relationship.

Ray was letting Rana get all her wild oats sown, because he intended to be the one she ended up with, forever. Going to Dandro’s was the perfect first date. Her agreeing to go out with a loser like Jeff let him think now was the time for him to make his move.

It was.
