“My dream last night was weird.” “Define weird.” I munched on the best apple slices, sweet and juicy. Angie got a far-away look in her eyes. “It was about a garden, lush and green. I was there with a man. We were walking and then suddenly there was a snake.” She eyed my sliced apple. “I think your apple was in my dream.” “Impossible. I just bought it this morning. There is no way you could know I wanted this apple for lunch.” “What if I can see the future? What if that dream is a sign?” “I think it’s a sign you’ve been reading the Bible. That sounds an awful lot like Adam and Eve and the serpent in the Garden of Eden. The snake tempted Eve with an apple.” “Jackie, you know I don’t read the Bible. I wouldn’t know Adam and Eve if they walked down Main Street and wished me a happy day.” Angie looked out the window of the break room. “In fact, if anyone walked up to me and started a conversation I’d call the cops. And if a snake crawled up to me and tried to get me to eat an apple, well, kapow!” Angie slapped the table. “Then perhaps you’re wanting to go back in time, not forward to the future. Back to a simpler time. Maybe you want to stop Eve from taking that apple.” Angie grabbed a few of my apple slices. “Maybe you’re right. I’d probably knock her down, grab that apple and Adam, and run off to play in the garden.” Oh brother. “And the snake?” “Hmm. I’d shoot that bugger first. I hate snakes.” Angie rose, scurried off down the hall. I sometimes fear for the future of the human race. W/C 292 |
