Oh, I so agree with you! My girls and I have talked about it, and we think a foreign language should begin being taught in elementary school. We are so far behind other countries when it comes to languages. My oldest has learned French and Japanese. My youngest took two years of Spanish, but she hasn't retained much of it at all. I think it's because they didn't learn them until high school.
You're right; I don't think the kids are challenged much in school. I know my daughters both struggled with math, as did I, but that's different than what you're talking about, I think. Have you retained what you learned in school?
I think the hearing issue during lots of other noise is quite frequent. I have to strain at times. I did get some headphones to use with the TV. Some of the worse problems are sports events that have the crowd noise drowning out the announcers. Then again, they seem to babble on about stuff and rarely mention the game!
Wordsmitty ✍️ You are so right - one day last week we had 8 forks to wash. 8. 2 people in one day. What??? And the next day it was spoons. 6. Again, 2 people in one day.
We eat 2 meals a day, breakfast and a mid-afternoon meal. Then a snack at night. I think there are extra invisible people living in our home.
Isn't it amzing that one day, all the spoons get dirty, the next it's the forks or all the bowls. I think we need to make a plan for what dishes get used each day instead of what food to have.
I wasn't aware of the connection between hearing aids and dementia, but it makes sense. Both my daughter and husband have hearing loss. My daughter has had it since birth. My husband developed it after working on a farm for twenty years. I may suggest a hearing aid because he can't hear in areas where there is a lot of talking going on. It is funny how we don't "hear" things when we're at home as opposed to when we're out.
Letters and cards have a personal touch that is needed in the world. I don't often write them but, have often thought about doing so and don't follow through. Maybe I'll give it a try. Even though postage is supposed to go up again soon. I think the cost of postage may have a drain on the amount of letters people will be willing to send. That's a shame since they are fun to receive and I think give more information than other types of mail. I know texting can be limited by a carrier sometimes.
I'm not one to trust wholeheartedly what's on social media. I'm also not one who likes to post my daily life for everyone to maybe read about. I certainly don't spend too much time on anything like Facebook.
Good luck with getting your museum on the Montana Dinosaur Trail!
Kåre เลียม EngaGlad to hear you're back safe and sound. And just in time for some better weather finally! Send me your postal address by email - you'll get mail.
Good for you for being able to find them. I swear my washer eats clothes because there was once after we had moved into our new house and actually had everything unpacked, that I put a pair of pants into the wash and never saw them again. It happened more than once, and I couldn't figure out where they went. It's not like someone came into my house and zeroed in on pants in the laundry! I never did find those pants.
The closets in our house are very small. We live in a house built in 1949, and everything is small. We can only shove so much in each closet. Clothes are spilling out of our bedroom closet. I have clothes on my dresser that I haven't looked through in months. It's crazy. It takes so much time to go through everything and find a place for them. It's overwhelming, and I just turn around and walk away.
