She stepped out into the darkness, gazing up at the stars. She never imagined she'd be standing here alone and so far from home. Her eyes welled and her heart raced as she waited in silence.

"This is Houston. All systems are go for your first walk on the moon."


Authors notes:

Houston refers to NASA's Mission Control Center, located in Houston, Texas. Going to the Moon would be impossible without Mission Control. Almost every move the astronauts make are monitored, supported, or advised by Houston's ground control team.

Only 12 human beings, all men and no women, have walked on the Moon. In 2020, NASA's communication director reported that NASA planned to land astronauts on the Moon, including possibly a woman astronaut or astronauts, as part of the U.S. Artemis program.
