Michelle Guide to the Apocalypse Resturant Scene Food 555 Words Joe Lewis was the senior food critic for the Michelin Guide book. He was faced with a dilemma in reviewing the 2030 entries. The world was ending, the COVID 28 pandemic and World War 111 had resulted in perhaps the ending of world wide civilization with the collapse of travel, the resurgence in what could best be described as neo-feudalism as people retreated into newly fortified small towns, and battled canibal gangs, and resurgent wildlife, lions, tigers and wolves who preyed on unwary or unarmed refugees fleeing the decaying urban disasters zones. Sam Adams was the running a restaurant that hoped to be ranked on the latest Michelin guide book. His restaurant based in Medford, Oregon, specialized in bush meat including bear, bison, deer, elk, feral cattle and pigs, and the newly prevalent escaped African game that had proliferated with the collapse of civilization and had escaped from zoos and wild life preserves across the country. Sam employed a team of hunters who hunted game and brought it for sale at his restaurant and pub which had become locally famous for its unique cuisine. Joe was determined to visit and rank Sam’s grill which had a quirky end-of-the world vibe. Traveling there was difficult with the collapse of the airline industry. But he finally got there and was preparing for his meal. Sam came out and greeted him and when he found out who Joe was became very friendly, perhaps too friendly. Sam took Joe out back to look at ‘game” that would soon be on the menu and to interview the hunters that made it all possible. After a delious dinner, Joe was shown his room for the night as Sam was also running a Bed and breakfast for travelers. The next morning Joe enjoyed breakfast – bacon, ham, eggs and pancakes. The bacon and ham had a pleasant but unusual taste. Joe went for a walk and came upon an unusual sight. A sight that would haunt his remaining days. He came upon an impromptu slave market – slavery had come back across the world as terrified refugees were being rounded up and pressed into becoming slave labor on the new plantations that had spread out across the country. Joe stopped and talked to the slave master and explained what he was doing. The man, George laughed and said, “that’s cool Joe. But there is one thing you need to know. Did you eat the bacon and ham this morning?” “I did indeed.” ‘how was it?” “delicious. Why?” “ever hear of the term long pig?” “yeah, that what’s cannibals call human meat.” “Well, think about it. Some of these slaves are being bred for the meat market, if you know what I mean.” “prostitution?” “yeah and for human consumption. If I were you I’d write a great review and get out of town before Sam adds you to the menu.” Joe filed his review and fled town. Sam read the review on the surviving internet and vowed revenge on Joe. Joe’s review ended with a line If you eat at Sam’s Grill, be careful of the bacon and ham. There are rumors that Sam occasionally uses “long pork” products. I tried the bacon and ham, it was great tasting but I wondered who died to make the bacon and ham I had for breakfast. The inspiration to start the guide was to encourage people to take road trips ... and thus wear out their tires and buy new ones! Huh, go figure.
