A poem about the horrors of Alzheimer’s.
I’ve forgotten something…
Was it plans I had later,
Was it the visit to that crater,
Was it the name of my brother,
Who went away with my mother?

Was it about this lady in my car,
Was it how I met her at a bar,
Was it the reason I was late,
For our very first date?

Was it the chores I haven’t done,
Was it the last time I had fun,
Was it about my little winner,
That I was going to treat to dinner?

Was it the name of my cat,
Was it where I left my bat,
Was it about my family’s faces,
My granddaughter’s lack of braces?

Was it my lack of fame,
Was it my last name,
Was it my final desire,
To go look at that spire?

Was it this house I sleep in,
Was it that photo in the bin,
Was it how I’m about to die,
And all this lady can do is cry?

I’ve forgotten something…
