Hurt, different scar types

They're everywhere
I see them
Some are obvious
Some are invisible
Everyone has one
Some are shallow
Some are deep
Most ignore them,
Pretend they're not there
But they exist
They won't fade away
They're real
If it's physical or emotional
They're there
They may be from abuse or betrayal
They may be from surgery
But they're present
They don't go away
Not everyone acknowledges them
But they are right in front of us
A little ones body is changed -forever
What once was perfect and pure
Is now damaged and defiled
I can never forget it
Etched into my memory
Like they were sewn into her skin
Scars are a reminder of what happened
They help us to remember how strong, How determined we are to survive.
We finally accept the inevitable
We're changed physically, emotionally
But, we know to never give up, to keep fighting
To keep breathing, in and out, in and out...
