Days honored in July.

JULY GOODBY


July 31 is the day we say goodbye to all the fun we had in the month of July. July is known to be the month during the year when sunshine can make us hot and dry. It’s the month we reach out to the year as a whole, thinking we have lived another half of a year. Since this is the month we can have summer vacations, special family reunions, lazy days to just read a book and sip iced tea I decided to look into the calendar and see just what makes this month special.

The month as a whole starts us off with the one celebration, we all want to keep all year. It's national Ice Cream month. During July you will find several days celebrating different kinds of Ice Cream. As hot as July can be it is no surprise the whole month is celebrating ice cream.

National Parks and Recreation month is also attributed to July. Just think, recreation all month long.

July 1 is Canada Day when Canadians celebrate their independence. Along the border between USA and Canada many cities enjoy helping Canada celebrate. Just neighbors getting together for a little recreation.

No wonder July 2 is I Forgot Day and UFO Day. With these celebrations on the first two days of the month it is a wonder we can remember what comes next.

July 3, Compliment your mirror day, July 7, World Chocolate Day, and July 9, sugar cookie day.

July 4 USA Independence Day. A day for fireworks and picnics. This year the fireworks on TV that were a part of the National Independence Televised Special were spectacular. Many of us can appreciate the space away from a serious fireworks displays, that watching it on TV can provide.

Ashura July 6 is special for Muslims. According to Wikipedia, the two groups Sunni and Shia celebrate in different ways. For Sunni it is a day of remembrance of the past helps from the Lord. For Shia a sorrowful commemoration of the death of Mohammad's Grandson and persecutions not resolved.

July 7 also equals World Forgiveness Day.

July 10 (I had to include this.) “Today's the Day the Teddy Bears have their Picnic.” Commemorates every Teddy Bear everywhere.

July 11 celebrates World Population Day.The 11th of July has a special significance for some, because it is the number 11.The Orthodox church dedicates the 11th day of every month to the one they call St. Nicholas, This day is significant in the Indian calendar as a reminder of the divine presence and the eternal rhythm of nature. Its not quite the middle of the month.

July 14 is National Mac and cheese day. Plus it is Bastille day for France. People with French heritage may be celebrating.

July 15, 2025 Major league Baseball holds their all star game in Atlanta, Georgia.

July 16 is Rural Transits Day, Snake Day, and national Hot Dog Day..

July 17 is National Emoji day.

July 20, National Moon Day. Commemorates the first moon landing in 1969.

Jul 24 gives us National self-care day. And, to celebrate it is also Tequila Day. Plus, the 24th is celebrated in Utah in honor of the first Mormon settlers at Salt Lake called Pioneer Day.

The entire third week of July is Capture the Sunset week. Get out and use your camera to remember the sunset in all its glory.

July 27th is Parents Day, Grandparents Day, and is also celebrated in West Virginia for Korean War Veterans as well as anywhere in the nation as Korean War Armistice Day.

July has special indications for the whole month. As well as National Ice Cream Month, It is considered National Park and Recreation month, and Minority Mental Health Awareness month.

Looking ahead we see in 2028, July will host the Summer Olympics.

July 31 gives us remember Mutts Day, National Avocado Day, and International Lifeguard Appreciation Day.

There are calendars made with a special day marked on every day of the month.

Even though summer is not over August brings with it a different ambience, The atmosphere of summer changes from just recreation to a forward look at harvest and new school year beginnings. So Hello August , Good bye July see you next year.
