A parrot discourses on the meaning of speech. |
| “A parrot’s mind is not as sharp as mine,” the scientist opined, true to his time. A human, he believed the world then was like a layer cake; on top were men. As centuries of life on Earth have passed his numerous religions have amassed billions of followers to his belief, from which we parrots can have no relief. When we began to talk, they said our sound was like an echo, nothing more profound; and yet, within my cage, I’ve yet to see a human, in my language, speak to me. Written for a daily contest:
