Marian and Poppy were best friends, until they weren't

Daydream Believer
“Do you expect me to believe that?” Marian asked Poppy as they walked to a café.
“Would I lie to my best friend?”
“Let me see if I’ve got the gist of what happened. You had a daydream that you met the famous designer Mikko Kydo. You were wearing something you made. She loved it and hired you on the spot.
“Later that morning, you really met her; she admired your coat. When you mentioned you designed it, she invited you to come to her office for an interview for an apprentice position.”
“It’s true! If you were a real friend you’d be happy for me!”
“I am. But I still can’t believe it. Why doesn’t that ever happen to me?”
“You never daydream. I always get the impression you think it’s a waste of time.”
“I’ve never said that! I just don’t do it!”
“Maybe you need to. Practice makes perfect.”
“Right now, I’m hungry. Let’s eat!” As they ate, Marian couldn’t stop thinking about the effect of Poppy’s daydreaming.
“I know what we can do,” Marian told Poppy. She outlined her plan for a course and practice sessions to develop daydreaming skills.
“Think your boss will go for it?”
“Anything left of center, my boss at the spa is willing to try.”
For a long time after, the two friends had no time. Poppy got hired by the designer and always had working lunches. Marian was running the new program at the spa.
By the time they were able to meet again, Poppy was recovering from a nervous breakdown and Marian was the owner of her own business, Daydreams Are Believing. Poppy became a silent partner with Marian and they shared the profits. Until Poppy suddenly lost her mind and killed Marian for stealing her idea.
