It was work for me today. The kind that no one likes, the kind that is on a Monday. I had been dreading it since Friday. There were some meetings that would either be rubbish, or awful. The sort of meetings where you might get into trouble as if you were back in school, or just end up with more work on top of the more work that already built up from the past decade of working. I ended up with more work.

The normal manager was off today. He’s off for two weeks. Needs a break from all the sitting in sanitised rooms, talking about buttons to put in places on the computer system that might get used once a year. I don’t blame him.

There’s this other contractor that’s come in. She’s a hotshot apparently. I’m not sure why. I haven’t really seen eye to eye with her since she started. She’s all buzzwords and vague phrases that don’t actually mean anything. They might mean something specific to her but, they don’t mean anything specific to me. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a perfectly nice person, actually pretty fun to talk to so long as it's not about work. Today she was really good. I have to give her credit. Maybe she is a hotshot after all?

The workday passed quickly. I really locked in. There was a lot to be done, more than was possible to get done. That seems to be the trick with work, you can never actually finish it. There’s always enough left to cover the next thirty-seven years until retirement. Best not to think about that. I locked in today, I’m not sure if I will tomorrow. That never seems to be under my control.

Anyway, it’ll be work for me again tomorrow. The kind that no one likes, the kind that is on a Tuesday.
