A poem about loss because of cancer
It has been many years
Since your life slipped away.
I still shed the tears,
Each and every day.

Just a child I was,
Watching your life fade.
I didn't understand the cause,
But each night I prayed.

It really wasn't explained to me.
Your condition I couldn't understand.
"Play with me!" I would plea,
As you sat and held my hand.

As time moved on,
A stranger you soon became.
My Gran was suddenly gone,
Nothing left but your fragile frame.

The culprit was cancer,
The evil thief of your life.
Questions with no answers,
Will always cut me like a knife.

I still remember good times,
The memories shared with you.
Reading me nursery rhymes,
And coloring the sky blue.

"It's not fair!"
I remember that sad day.
Cancer doesn't care,
It took you away.

My life has moved on,
But my heart will always ache.
Cancer is the reason you're gone,
But the memories it could not take.

I know you are watching over me,
Smiling down from above.
Your spirit finally soars free
And comforts me with your love.
