LIFE - A REPRISE All the world's a stage, said Shakespeare, I lived my life fully, no scares, no fear, And looked at so many things here and there, Right and wrong, bright and dull, dark and fair. I saw my parents live a life of lies, I saw my teachers strutting about like flies, I saw some of my friends trying to leach me, And the cops in my town setting thieves free. In the markets, fleecing the buyers, At the squares, goods sold by liars, In the movies, actors swung from trees, Once, I even ended up buying fungus-ridden cheese. When I married and took vows to ne'er fight, And love my better-half, and do everything right, I scarcely knew what a web of deceit she weaved, She behaved horribly, and I, forever, grieved. My children, they left me in my old age, Then she ran away with my pal, bag and baggage, To make things worse, she filed for alimony, Then my son got arrested for crime and felony Thus passed my days, one by one, Someone or the other, drove out my life's fun, Now that my life's done, and I am in a sick bay, Life's the biggest scam, I personally say. Everyone tricks you fair and full, no one is true, They try to do you in, I shall forever rue, And from the other side of the grave, I will aver, God may be running the scam on earth for ever. © Dr. Taher Kagalwala, 2003 |
