A Father's Infinite Wisdom...

I was a teenager in the early ‘70’s. It was a time of rebellion for the whole world… and as a teenager living in a mid-sized town in Kansas, I was more rebellious than most. I was fortunate enough to have a very understanding and loving father, a bit of a rebel himself, to give me advice and try to steer me away from harm, without being too demanding.

Oh, and yes, he knew I wouldn’t follow every piece of advice he gave me. That didn’t matter much to him… what mattered was that I realized it when these things happened to me. He knew that then I’d know that was one of the things in life that hurt or harm, figure it out, and stop doing it.

Boy-o-boy was he right! Every single time one of those situations occurred, I’d realize it and think, "Ah-oh… there’s another one of those things Dad was talkin’ about.” It worked out really well. Every time one of those things happened, I’d know I was human… know that, yeah, maybe I got a little embarrassed or hurt, but, by-golly, nobody died, nobody went to jail and a great lesson in life was learned.

I decided I’d share the infinite wisdom (with anyone who happens to be lucky enough to trip upon it) of one great man… not rich, not famous… just a very wise and humble father and friend who lightened the load in life of every person he came in contact with. He loved too much and died too young. However, he didn’t leave us floundering. He left a wealth of information behind and a daughter that can pass it along to everyone she touches… who has a daughter who’ll be able to pass it along to everyone she touches.

We all know that we can’t change the world… but we can sure make our little piece if it a better place with love, patience, honesty, humor and wisdom.

These stories are the reason I don’t blush very often or get embarrassed. I figured out I was human a long time ago.
