9/11 has made me more cynical than ever
Crash, crash.
Burn, burn.
Trying times and tragedy.

Blah, blah.
Aah, aah.
My TV blared top volume.

Tears, tears.
Screams, screams.
Something scarring happened, but what is it?

People say it's a crime to forget.
The media seeks to reinforce it.
Sadly, I cannot concur.
I will never remember.

Fear, fear.
Pain, pain.
No one in America moved.

Blare, blare.
Flash, flash.
Had not this been, who's Aaron Brown?

Drone, drone.
Yak, yak.
Something horrible happened, but what is it?

Those who move along are pummeled,
and those not must continue to tumble.
We don't want this to go on forever.
We have no choice but to never remember.

Beep, beep.
Roar, roar.
They slowly pick up the pace.

Vroom, vroom.
Click, click.
They turn the key to rev up life.

Thwack, thwack.
Wah, wah.
Something disgusting happened, but what is it?

People want to return to normal,
yet as companies fall, we become more cynical.
There's a movement to return to our monotonous slumber.
Maybe that's good, so they'll never remember.

No, no.
Help, help.
Seems like all is ripping at the seams.

Yell, yell.
Blame, blame.
Fingers are pointed in all directions.

Cry, cry.
Scream, scream.
Something unspeakable happened, but what is it?

As the year winds down, we pause to review life.
Still, many focus on the wrong strife.
I guess at this point it's all a blur.
Now I have chosen to never remember.

Just advertise it!
They make money off of pain.
It's sacreligious.

*Note:The ending senryu is not part of the original poem but is included because it expresses the same cynicism towards the media/American society as the original poem does.
