A poem of hope, coming through the dark |
Truth Within a Dark Night The light burns within, Darkness prowls through the house. Shadows stalk on the walls. A lone candle burns valiantly, protecting the shivering child. The wind howls viciously, conjuring images of screaming banshees. She huddles, infantile, hiding from the truth. A loud crack, a window smashed, she screams. No longer safe, she fears the worst. She looks in every direction, the darkness pressing inward. The wind stirs, dust swirls, the candle flickers. The flame fails, vanquished by the dark. Tears stream down her rosy cheeks. She falls, against the wall, down and down. A cross, she bears, around her neck. She grips it tightly, praying for salvation. Footfall is heard, her eyes tightly closed. She can hear the breathing. It reaches, arms wrapping around her small form, in an embrace. It is her love, come to save. He lowers down, kissing her gently, holding her tightly. The darkness shrinks away, defeat. |
