The sparkle had left her eyes some time ago.
She had lost the fight and wasn't well.
Depression had stolen her precious life,
Leaving her soul behind to die.
All methods of help had been exhausted,
Therapy, pills, and cures holistic.
So they sent her to the Cuckoo's Nest,
To shock her mind a dozen times.
Memories erased as the current flowed,
Electrodes scorched her sleeping brain.
Three times a week, a month of hell,
And a fate much worse than death.
She was tossed back into the world,
Expected to lead a normal life.
Vowing never again to sink so low,
To never lose her beautiful mind.
Now learning her life all over again,
She exists in a fog of confusion.
No memory of this torture or most of her past,
But living a life no longer her own.
