| I let her be upon her way While I bowed my head to pray. After... I and a velvet ant, a ground wasp that hunts by day, Encountered each other as she searched for her prey. I towered over her, lordly, shading her universe, Eyes bound to each antenna beat as she worked to pack her larder. She, however, ignored me, and staying her course, Guided around my feet, and never slacked her ardor. In confidence I waited and followed behind, Big and magnificent, to be lent an ear for a moment As one so small surely ought. With insolence unabated, she went about the daily grind That made me insignificant. Time well spent is dear to one so bent To labor's call, and I thought… Rather like me and God. |
