Summary of this Book...
A young woman named Olympia, who while with her family at their summer seaside cottage in Fortunes Rocks, meets an older married man, John Haskell, whom she falls in love with. The story takes place at the turn of the last century therefore the affair the couple begins is especially scandalous and frought with tension, forbidden desire, sorrow and danger.
I especially liked...
The authors attention to detail. It is historically accurate and the authors ability to describe anything and everything so accurately (the town, the people, the clothing, the emotions) truly transports the reader to a different place and time.

I also liked the authors ability to build tension.

And... the ending. It was not at all what I was expecting. (It was actually happy!... But that's all I can say.)
I didn't like...
Everything the author described was so detailed - she really creates a picture, so I was looking forward to some really spicy love scenes... but unfortunately she leaves that totally up to the readers imagination.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was in Olympias shoes, and loved John Haskell myself.

It also made me feel strong... As a woman I identified with Olympia and felt that I actually drew strength from her courage and steadfastness.
Further Comments...
Fortune's Rocks recieved much praise - here are two reviews that I whole heartedly agree with:

"A beautifully written narrative, rich in detail and in a style that has the perfection of a snowflake and all the passion and intensity of first love." - Valerie Ryan, Seattle Times.

"A deliciously intelligent page-turner... A succulent novel of forbidden Victorian passion... It has a morally complex heroine, a breakneck narrative, and an emotional story filled with unpredictable twists and turns." - Jocelyn McClurg, Hartford Courant.
