Everyone for miles around knows Katharina Minola as shrewish woman, of a fiery will who will be controlled or turned by no man. Her younger sister, Bianca, known for her beauty and gentleness, vies for marriage. Their father swears though that he shall not marry his youngest daughter off till he has got a wife for the first. Now disgusted with her sister more than ever and sure her fate is to be found in her studies, Bianca becomes caught up in a clever plot to win over her shrew of a sister, so that another could claim Bianca as his own. But this is merely the story within the story, for Kathrina and the rest are merely players, performing for the druken rouge, Christopher Sly, who, for others amusement, has been made to think he is of noble birth.

Katharina. Her character is a wonderful one, full of life and passion. I also enjoyed the last few scenes the best. Act 4, Scene 4 through Act 5, Scene 2 (and the end of the play) are some of the greatest lines in this play and perhaps Shakespeare period. I also enjoyed when Petruchio dresses horridly for the wedding to see if Katharina would still have him and submit to him or not. It was also interesting to see the layered character development in both Katharine (my favorite female Shakespeare character) and Petruchio. They both are, in the end, very different (and for the most part, wiser), people. Katharine in particular learns that obstinance doesn't really equal independence and sometimes, its simply childish and can ruin your chances of ever being truly happy.

watch it in action! My grandmother loaned me her copy of the movie version with Elizabeth Taylor. It was fantastic as well.

is William Shakespeare, one of the world's greatest poets/dramatists of all time. He is known most notably for his works like Romeo & Juliet, or Macbeth. Among his other offerings to literature were The Tempest, King Lear, Julius Ceaser and many of the words and phrases we use today find their origin in this singular author including the words "assassinate", "motionless", and "dawn", and the saying "For goodness sakes!". His plays have been performed the world over for centuries, and his name will certainly live in infamy for years to come.

this is one of William Shakespeare's greatest comedies, and I really enjoyed everything about it. It was confusing at times due to cultural barriers between today's world and Shakespeare's, but a version with cliffnotes can clear that problem up right away.

I would have liked to see more at the end about Christopher Sly and the rest of that crowd, but the ending is certainly approvable as is.
