Summary of this DVD... | ||
In the dying days of the old west, a gang of bank robbers find themselves more and more a thing of the past. They decide to make one last big score before hanging up the guns and retiring.
I especially liked... | ||
The setting, Mexico in 1916, is a setting not often explored by movie makers. This is an action filled movie, but the theme of loyalty to your friends is evident all through the story.
I didn't like... | ||
That two of the main characters got "stolen" and turned up as vampires in an episode of "Buffy the Vampire slayer". No fair!
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
I wanted to throw more westerns on the dvd player.
This DVD made me feel...
The first time I saw this movie I wsa stunned by the brutality and the violence in the movie, though by todays standards, it's pretty tame.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Ben Johnston, Warren Oates, Edmund O'Brien and Jaime Sanchez as the gang. Robert Ryan is the former gang member blackmailed into leading the posse chasing the gang. They are all great. The fact that these were all veteran actors and not young "leading men" gives a real air of authenticity to their performances as old worn out outlaws.
I recommend this DVD because...
I recommend this movie to anyone who loves a good old fashioned "blood and bullets" western. The underlying theme of loyalty to your friends adds depth to the story.
I don't recommend this DVD because...
This movie is very violent, a number of innocent people get hurt and killed and there is torture. There is a small amount of low level nudity and regular sexual references. This isnt a movie for kids.
Further Comments... | ||
If this isn't my favourite western of all time, it is definitely in my top three.
