THE WHITE WHALE I enjoyed this story. How it twisted with Greg’s Dad’s death, and his reaction to that, and how he eventually found his way back again. I enjoyed the relationship with his wife and found the characters very believable, and very likeable. Loved the last line. GHOST DREAMS This one was completely different from the first, which gave me a greater sense of anticipation of what would come with the rest of the stories inthis book, knowing that each one I read would provide me with different reactions. The description of what Amy did filled me with fascinated horror. Then I enjoyed how the story changed direction. THE ASSASSINATION OF GOD This story was so “out there”, certainly beyond any imaginings I had had with regard to whom was responsible for the crime and terror that is so rife in our world. The protagonist had quite an idea of solving this universal problem – both completely logical, if one thinks about it, and yet a little over the top too. THE IMPRESSIONIST This story had a huge impact. This was the story I was telling my friends and colleagues about! And how we tried to put ourselves in that position – of being that mother, or that father, and having to live with the consequences of what that antagonist did. The horror that these people would be facing in reality, would I believe, be almost impossible to live with. THE BROKEN PROJECTOR This was interesting – initially written from an actual writer’s point of view. How someone writes a story using a projector, but by the time I had finished reading this story, I was glad I don’t write using that method! I like the attention to detail. “The drip drip-drip of gasoline falling from the nozzle, which he still held comically in the air” and “Louie popped a chip in his mouth and winked at him.’ Very visual writing. EXONERATED This was an excellent story. One does hear every once in a while of someone being exonerated after being incarcerated for a long period of time. (Thank goodness for DNA.) However, we seldom look at how that impacts on other people who may have been involved. His revenge must have been sweet. Wow – 27 years – a lifetime. The author painted the picture so well with the contrast between Charles’ lifestyle and Michael’s. THE PIZZA GIRL This was such a lovely love story. It was definintely geared for the over 18, but the underlying depth of this story, was her love for him. I enjoyed hearing how it all works, the set up for movies, etc, and how she felt throughout – her honesty seemed real. It’s great to imagine an old woman sitting there quietly and having that kind of story to tell. THE CRYING SHIRT This was one of my favorite stories. I’m not sure why. It was very graphic, but it took me right there – into the scene. I think it was because I liked the protagonist – he seemed very natural, knowing what was coming, his slightly jaded air. The unexpected twist at the end was great too – it was worded so perfectly that one had an inkling of impending doom. It reminded me of the Destination Movies - where you are just waiting for something to happen. THE BOGEYMAN This seemed a little tongue in cheek. This story was different in that it allows the reader to have his own interpretation of the story. DELIVERY MEN I enjoyed this “mafiosa” type story. It seemed a real “male” story, aimed at the male readers with hot sex, bloody killings and body parts, and straight talk. I enjoyed the way there are stories within stories. DELIVERY BOYS The Delivery Boys was a good follow up - It gave us a insight as to how some of the events in Delivery Men were triggered. HOW TO BE A SUPERHERO I liked the way this was written.., as if a woman would do certain things a certain way. I smiled the tone of cynicism in the story. CHOICES Good story! The reader kind of gets where the story is going, until another little twist is added. Thus turning the story into yet another direction. LOOK I would have loved to know the outcome of this story, but I suppose I would have wanted a “happy” ending, and not all stories end that way. But what a thought ! Something so horrible and grotesque to be almost reversed by the amazing power of music. I’m not a great sci-fi/futuristic type of reader, but I did enjoy this. These words cut totally to the chase, and have a lot of impact. Again, there was that hint of impending doom OVERALL I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I enjoyed the style of writing of this author enormously. These stories have style, plot, humor, impact, and certainly reveals a lot more than the cover of the book would have us believe. | ||
