Alister McGrath examines the life and legacy of C.S. Lewis, the famous and respected novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian, and Christian apologist.

Lewis, author of The Chronicles Of Narnia series and Mere Christianity, friend and influence of J.R.R. Tolkien and Oxford don, was both well-known and popular during his lifetime but after his death fell into seeming obscurity. Recent years have seen a steady rise in the recognition of his life and works and now, fifty years after his death, biographer Alister McGrath, a professor and Christian apologist himself, returns to re-examine this beloved and significant figure of recent history.

McGrath presents an objective study of Lewis's thoughts and actions, and I felt like I was reading a fair and honest account.

It's a very easy yet in-depth read, and the subject is extremely well researched. Also, it is laid out evenly in a way that gives enough attention to each stage of Lewis's life.

I would have liked to read more about Lewis's later years and especially his relationship with contemporary writers and intellectuals.

Closer to Lewis and more interested in his lesser known works.
