Summary of this Book...
Interesting perspective on yoga with a kid-friendly guide in the back of the book. "I can touch the sky" represents the Mountain Pose; "I can sparkle with the stars" represents the Star Pose; and "I can stand up for me" represents the Warrior Pose. These are only a few examples that highlight this wonderfully written book with simple but lovely illustrations partnering up with each pose.
This type of Book is good for...
This would be great for parents/grandparents to read and follow the yoga poses with their children. Also, a great way to begin for curious onlookers. And seniors.
I especially liked... | ||
I loved how each page can relate to how kids feel. "I tell my wiggling body: be still. I tell my thinking mind: be quiet." Meditation could do wonders for many children.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I'm going to practice all these poses myself!
This Book made me feel...
Relaxed. | ||
The author of this Book...
Susan Verde is the author of this unique book and she actually does teach yoga to children. Peter H. Reynolds is the illustrator of many award-winning and bestselling picture books. They make a great picture book team!
I recommend this Book because...
This is a great way to help teach a child to relax.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not that I don't recommend it, but I feel it should be read with someone who can assist the reader with the poses. If I were five or six and looked at this book by myself, with no prier yoga experience/knowledge, I might lose interest. And this is not a book that deserves to be put down and forgotten! I noticed I was the first person to check it out at my library (in the children's section.)
Further Comments... | ||
I'm already thinking about purchasing this book for my grandkids!
