Summary of this Book...
Carrie was Stephen King's first published novel. It follows the story of highschooler Carrie White, a plain, frumpy girl with no friends.

She has been raised by her religiously fanatical mother, who rules Carrie's life with threats of eternal damnation and physical abuse.

The book opens with Carrie having her first period after gym class. Her mother has told her noting about menstruation, and she believes that she is bleeding to death. Her classmates react to the situation by throwing tampons and sanitary napkins at her.

Carrie's humiliation continues when she returns home. Her mother beats her and throws her into a prayer closet, saying that she is punished by God for some sin she has committed.

Carrie's school life continues to be a misery, until she is asked to go to the prom by Tommy (one of the popular boys in school).

Initially suspecting his motives, Carrie eventually attends prom with him. A number of her classmates plan to publically humiliate Carrie, so they rig the prom queen election.

As anyone who has seen the film will know, Carrie exacts her revenge in a truly horrific manner.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who enjoys horror in general
I especially liked...
Stephen King includes a lot of extra information in his novels that end up being cut from the film versions, and Carrie, despite being relatively short by King's standards, is no exception.

We get to see a lot more of Carrie's home life in the book, and there is also the inclusion of the "White Committee" that was included at the end of the book.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Watch the film again. It has been so long since I've seen the film, and it was one of the better film versions of a Stephen King book.
I recommend this Book because...
Stephen King wrote it. What other reason do you need? lol
