In this mystery featuring one of Agatha Christie's most famous detectives, a quiet English town is rocked by the murder of local bigwig Roger Ackroyd. The police's main suspect: his niece's boyfriend, who happens to have disappeared from town on the night of the murder.

The niece enlists the aid of the "retired" Hercule Poirot to find the truth -- before the police make a grave mistake.

With the help of the local doctor, Poirot does exactly that.

Red herrings and plot twists ensue.

People who enjoy well-crafted, old-fashioned mysteries.

The twist at the end -- my reaction was surprise culminating in a geeky "that's awesome!" One of the most excellent implementations of the literary device that I have encountered.

(But I'm not going to spoil it here. )

As a writer, the technical aspects of the mystery and the use of the literary device are worth studying.

Also, it's just a really good mystery.

I take great pride in the fact that I took note of the primary clue that hinted at the true murderer -- though I didn't figure it out until the reveal.
