Looks like I may have a ton of these, so this is collection 1 of Reflections |
Walker understands sexuality and sexual orientation as a spectrum of possibilities rather than as two, polar-opposite choices. Thus, like race, sexuality can be difficult to define, and more complex than the simple dichotomy of heterosexuality and homosexuality. Celie’s feelings toward Shug are sexual, but they are also based on friendship, gratitude, camaraderie, and admiration. Watched it twice in two days, love it. Funny how age changes/adds things to your perception. Upon searching "what disease did shug avery have" I came across: http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/purple/section3.rhtml It is clear that although Walker views resistance as crucial, she does not want to romanticize it as an act free of pain or consequences. For Walker, the most basic indication of victory is the ability to tell one’s story, and neither Sofia nor Squeak loses her voice. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/purple/section4.rhtml The images in Nettie’s letters not only open Celie’s eyes to the outside world, but also link the personal oppression Celie has felt with the broader themes of domination and exploitation on the continent of Africa.... Even though Celie may not yet realize it, Nettie’s descriptions of Harlem empower Celie and they may be a factor in the economic independence Celie achieves later in the novel. The concept of black prosperity and independence is yet another submerged or suppressed narrative that is now emerging into the foreground of Celie’s consciousness. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/purple/section5.rhtml Shug act more manly than most men. . . . Sofia and Shug not like men, he say, but they not like women either....Sofia says that she does feel some kindness for Eleanor Jane because Eleanor Jane had showed her kindness, but otherwise, the pain and racism that Sofia endured prevents Sofia from loving anyone else in the mayor’s family. Though Eleanor Jane vows to raise her son right, Sofia tells her that white society will probably make him into a racist nonetheless. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/purple/section8.rhtml Throughout the novel, reconciliation occurs when characters transform and meld each other into sameness. There are no notable examples of reconciliation that come about due to characters who truly bridge differences with one another. Celie, for instance, reconciles with Mr. ______ not because she grows to understand his different ways, but because her influence transforms Mr. ______ into someone who shares her interests and values. Neither Celie nor Mr. ______ truly bridge any difference, as Mr. ______ has transformed himself so drastically that there is no longer any difference between them left to bridge. Though Walker’s view may seem somewhat pessimistic, it is important to remember that, above all, The Color Purple is a story of successful transformation. Though some differences and conflicts remain unresolved at the novel’s conclusion, we have seen the remarkable transformation of an impoverished, abused woman of color into a successful, propertied entrepreneur who delights in her own sexuality and is enmeshed in a supportive, -loving community. Book idea: The Color Blue - based on my life, middle girl child, older adopted sister/cousin, younger brother quiet, obedient, learns manipulation by simply doing whatever her parents want, rebels in passive ways (bad at chores/dishes), treated like servant at her dad's after divorce younger sister, love child of fathers youngest sister, child of his next marriage evil final wife since twelve she dreams of her real father meets real father as jr./sr. in college; neither mom/dad want her to go "White girls have Jane Eyre, I got Alice Walker." |
I cannot believe it's been almost a month since I have written. This move/real-life is seriously cutting into my WDC time. I missed 10 days of Christmas in July :'( *sigh* se la vie.... Need to stay busy on bubblews too, one day that site's gonna pay for my Premium upgrade. I also want to keep my raffle going on the monthly basis until I hit my goal. Should open that up for August. Ok, off to update a few pieces. It is my goal to have more original work to display. |
Dear Kettering Rec Center, Your website says you are open to the public. Your website does not specify what ‘public’ means. Public could mean anything Your website does not say that only Ohio people may visit. My friend and her Aunt and Mother WHO LIVE IN DAYTON were told they had to produce paperwork proving their address was in Kettering. Last I checked this was not a requirement for EVERYONE wishing to use the park. The only difference between my friend and myself vs. EVERYONE else is the color of our skin. I have been stopped twice in kettering and each time it was b/c I had a black passenger. I am a college educated black woman with a B.S. in Technical Communications from a private Christian University, I do not take playing the race card lightly. I am not a fool, nor will I continue to support a city that treats me as such. |
5 What was the most important thing that happened yesterday? I had a bad morning, meaning whatever is going on behind the scene of my eyes had me feeling depressed for no noticable reason. Only thing I know was that I did not feel like going out to my Aunts for the fourth. I just didn't want to move around a lot or do anything....crazy right? No, just text book depression. I was afraid that I wouldn't enjoy myself, thus disappointing my mom. Turns out, at soon as we got there I was fine and relaxed. It awemazing the healing power of love and fellowship, few things are more important than those. ----------------- Quote Collector! #quotes Let us not speak of tolerance. July 4 Prompt - What funny things I remember on this date? It didn't start out funny, but if you can't beat them.... |
Prompt: What was your favorite family outing? Did you go somewhere? What made it special to you? Dinner and a movie are the classics, always a great time and fun to chat about. But after tonight I'mma add the Casino to that list. Took Mom for the first time this Mother's Day and we just went tonight. I lost my $10 but it was still fun! |
Opinion Thursday Blind and visually impaired children will now be able to experience classic picture books like Goodnight Moon and Harold and the Purple Crayon with the help of 3D printing technology. See complete link here: http://mashable.com/2014/07/03/3d-printed-book/ How could anyone not think this is awesome! this reminds me of the Visual speech movie function. If you've rented/bought a Disney/Pixar movie in the past 3-4 years you've seen (or rather heard) this before. The deep overhead voice comes in and narrates all the action that is without dialogue. I gotta be honest, Goodnight Moon is my FAVORITE baby book of all time!!! But even that renovation is just not as surprising and awesome as the movie narration enhancement. ------------------------------------ Prompt: Honestly, evaluate the way you respond to a crisis situation. Are you happy with the way you react? |
July 2 - While walking in the park one day... Who do you encounter? What memories enter your mind? |
t's War Chest Tuesday. Here's the prompt- July 1: What does forgetting mean to you? Literally it means 'to not remember something/someone' Google defines: for·get fərˈget/ verb fail to remember. "he had forgotten his lines" synonyms: fail to remember, fail to recall, fail to think of; More antonyms: remember inadvertently neglect to attend to, do, or mention something. "she forgot to lock her door" synonyms: neglect, fail, omit More put out of one's mind; cease to think of or consider. "forget all this romantic stuff" synonyms: stop thinking about, put out of one's mind, shut out, blank out, pay no heed to, not worry about, ignore, overlook, take no notice of; More Unfortunately a lot of people think I 'forget' about them because I don't call much....often....or at all. But that's just because I don't like talking on the phone! There is a minuscule amount of folks I have actually forgotten, and they are usually of the celebrity status. Only reason I remember a celeb right now is if they are in a ton of movies I really like and/or have seen recently. Out of sight, out of mind. -------------------------------------------------------------- In your opinion, what is the best 21st century romance film and why? (If you haven't seen a romantic movie in the past 14 years, then use a 21st century book - and get out to the movies soon!) I hate sappy romance movies, too much drama. I'll take a delightful Supernatural RomCom anyday, which is why I skip choices like 'The Notebook' and give you 'What's Your Number' and 'Warm Bodies'! WYN? is a rom com with the Scary Movie chick and the guy from Fantastic 4 and Captain America! It's sooooooooooooo cute, because I'm not proud of my number, but neither am I ashamed, I just wouldn't share it freely.....I love the chemistry between the two characters, simple yet hilarious. The key takeaway: be friends with a guy FIRST, no 'love'/sex involved and your actual relationship will be easy! (relatively) WB is a zombie rom-com that shocked me with it's brillance. SPOILER ALERT! The zombies can be HEALED, HEALED I SAY! Take THAT WWZ! Young Beast from the X-Men First Class and the most recent film is the main zombie, I don't remember the chick but the 2nd main zombie is an old favorite co-star of mine. What a way to say that true love REALLY does CONQUER ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
