I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.
kare. Get a ski pole. It is what I use in winter can dig into snow and ice. Shows me snow depth and helps me have good footing on ice. Found mine years ago in the local Good Will store for cheap price.
IMHO, The weather is less predictable than 50 years ago. Regardless, there are cycles.
We have had brutal winds this week, some snow, 16°F right now. The cold is important to kill off the nasties and snow in the mountains will help our streams come summer.
I got a cane for walking but it won't help with ice.
I'm very concerned that more experienced people are being replaced in every dynamic of our society and that more and more incidents will occur. I'm at a loss as to why neither of their radar detected the other's presence. And how much the radio chatter was a distraction.
I am very sorry for all involved, their lives were taken too soon.
As I write a response to you a private medical transport plane crashed in Philadelphia Friday evening. The first responders are dealing with a fire as the result of the crash. Did you know there was a small plane crash last week in California and another one in Nevada.
My family buried secrets. I'll never know the answers to at least two events that apparently traumatized me as a child. I'm still bitter about that. Yes, I know I should let go; but, they colored my life for most of it.
There is something about frothy white falling water that draws people. The falls here were irresistible. I watched birds in the trees and took photos of the flowers and trees.
Darwin:
We drove on toward Darwin in a pouring rain storm. Sometimes you could hardly see the road through the water sheeting down the windshields.
It had cleared by the time we reached Darwin and checked into the Palms City Resort. The resort is quiet. The setting is wild with all the palm trees and wildlife up so close to the building.
I took a walk around Darwin which really isn't large. In the center, there was a plague in a small park area with the Townhall Rules. They have a wave lagoon you have to pay to swim there. There is also a free park area with swimming. The park is peaceful, filled with a deep green grass under lots of trees. It was a good place to spread out a towel and take a nap or read a good book. If you are interested in wildlife try the crocodile park. The guide said you can swim in a cage in the same pool with the crocodiles Be sure the crocs are outside the cage and you are inside. In one park there are storyboards about the aboriginal people of the area who they call Salt Water People. Like most cities, they have their shops and eateries.
Viewing the skyline out over the ocean I saw military ships and rain storms as they moved across the horizon.
I spent the afternoon and evening on the veranda of the Resort reading a book and watching the birds in the nearby trees.
It feels good to rest after all the sites we have viewed in the last 9 days.
