Some very kind friends recommended that in lieu of typing, which is still a challenge for me, that I try a speech to text app. I did a search for them, and indeed they are still available. They are however quite expensive. However I did find this; Dictate your documents in Word Dictation lets you use speech-to-text to author content in Microsoft 365 with a microphone and reliable internet connection. It's a quick and easy way to get your thoughts out, create drafts or outlines, and capture notes. Windows/Mac Open a new or existing document and go to Home > Dictate Office Dictate Button while signed into Microsoft 365 on a mic-enabled device. Wait for the Dictate button to turn on and start listening. [Little Mike Icon Flashing] Start speaking to see text appear on the screen. This is a subscriber-only feature Can't find the Dictate button? The dictation feature is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. If you have Office 365, you have this app available! I do have Office 365, so it's available without additional cost. It is very sensitive, picks up the TV in next room and combines my dictation with the sound from TV. It does seem accurate when used in total silence. I will play with it and see what happens. |
Well, all of the hard casts are off, but I still have several soft brace-type things. I still have difficulty typing, my hunt and peck has slowed to H------U-----N-----T ------------------- A--------N-------D ------------ P------------E--------- , Oh tired now, I'll finish this later. |
The name of the voice to typing program you may be looking for is Dragon Speaking. |
Richard! I'm so glad you're making progress Yes, the program is I have is called Dragon Naturally Speaking. It does take a bit to train the program, but it's pretty efficient right out of the box. The downsides are it's expensive and their customer service is kind of garbage. Mine did work with many functions of WdC, but I haven't had to pull it up recently, so I'm not sure if that still holds true. Great to see you! |
JayNaNoOhNo - That brings memories. My brother and I used to have the pirated version of this programme and we messed around with it as kids. However, that programme can't recognise our Asian accent. That's was the 90s. Not sure about now. |
Quick update. First, I apologize to 🌻 thankful pwheeler and the members waiting for my results on the Lucky Limerick Contest. Second, thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes! Now, about that update; I was, rather foolishly, trying to prevent our 95-year-old neighbor from hurting himself. He was cleaning his gutters; I saw it and decided to take over the job. Well, as you can imagine, every good deed — of course, I managed to fall off the ladder, breaking one wrist and the other arm. Fittingly, the first of the casts came off yesterday, so today is Independence Day in more ways than one. Typing hurts a bit, but the Doctor said it would be good physical therapy. I will stop in now that I can move my fingers, but I must go slow. That's it for now; I apologize for my unexplained absence. |
I hope you will get better but take it slow, like you stated. I'm glad you are doing okay otherwise. |
Welcome back! I knew something major had to have happened for you to disappear for so long. I did end up judging the contest, but if you picked different winners, I can give out a second set of prizes. |
Anyhoo, I'm glad the Microsoft 365 voice recognition software seems to work better than that.
