There are many ins and outs on the site;
First — Richard ~ Merry, Merry which is my current handle, followed by three icons that you can click on.
Using mine as an example;
If you click on the first icon, with the little marching band, you will be taken to my portfolio or the collection of my work on WdC.
The next icon, a little envelope, will open an email window. If you have any questions, click on that to send them my way. I'll be happy to answer!
The last at least on mine is a little finger with a string tied on it. You might see it as a PLUS (+) sign. If you click on that once, you save me to your favorites and see whatever I post to the Newsfeed. Click on it again and you FANNED me, I get a little message letting me know you did that. So does everyone else you fan — I'm not Special!
Last, the Newsfeed itself. By default, it opens to your personnel Newsfeed. You will see only items or people you have Fanned or that are actual Writing.Com publication or announcements.
BUT! If you look across the top, just under the entry window there are options. Click on Community Newsfeed and you will see everything that everyone has posted. A whole new world!
Also on that line, is Saved NewsFeed Notes, if you look in the upper right corner of your original post to the Newsfeed, on the same line as your name there is a little downward arrow. Click on that and you can then click Save This Note, which adds it to your Saved Newsfeed Notes. Which makes it easy for you to find later.
Like I said, any questions, feel free to drop me an email or visit one of these forums;

"Non-Technical Support Forum" — The "I didn't break it, I swear!" place to ask questions
"Noticing Newbies" — The "I'm not sure where to ask?" place. Somebody will steer you in the right direction.
