Public Service Announcement: Yesterday, I opened a new round of "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest" that features the song "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, and I forgot to update a part of the forum from last year that still said: "Write a poem or song lyrics about your own shortcomings and insecurities." Please note that was a leftover from last year's prompt based on Taylor Swift's song "Anti-Hero." This year, we're back to the prompt being write a short story inspired by the song selection. The forum has been updated and it's only been up for less than a day, but I'm posting a public note here too just in case anybody's already started thinking of a poem or song lyrics and needs to adjust. So sorry for the confusion! |
Elycia Lee ☮ - Not really. It normally takes all month to write something. I wouldn't call that fast. I had only started working on something. |
My nine-year-old son has apparently discovered the "agree to disagree" response to an argument. Unfortunately, he hasn't quite figured out that it only really works with opinions and is a little tougher to use on facts. Today he asked me what our new steam cleaner is for and when I said it uses steam to clean things like surfaces, fabrics, etc. he argued and said he thought it was to clean dirty steam. I tried to tell him he was incorrect, and he just goes, "Yeah, well... agree to disagree." Can't want to see how this argument strategy is going to work out for him long term! |
I was running a D&D adventure for some friends last night and it was one of those sessions where everything that could go wrong for the players did. They tried to sneak in somewhere, and got discovered by an employee. A pair of guards walked in on them while they were trying to hide the employee's unconscious form. While they were interrogating their target quietly in her office, they realized they were doing it in full view of people in the garden outside the window. This was the vibe all night... ... and it was glorious. Peak D&D. We all haven't had that much fun at a game in ages. |
D & D--that brings back very fond memories of my first Army assignment in Germany in the late 70's. As one of five or six single Lieutenants, we would get together for an all-night session of D & D. One of the LT's would use the music of Al Stewart to set the theme for and run the game. I still have several dice we would use in the game--including a 17-sided die. |
The most memorable and fun DnD sessions have been where someone rolls a 1 and/or the DM is on a "TPK" (total party kill) mood. LOL. Glad we're not the only ones that enjoy the Epic Fail sessions. |

Do you have to base it on a whole album or can you just use a single song? (Highwayman-the version with the 4 singers) |
Anyone feel like doing a quick 10-question quiz to see how well you know Pixar's animated movies?
I'll give a Movie Lovers Merit Badge to the first three people with perfect scores! You should be able to retake the quiz if you get one wrong. |
Got 8 of 10, which is pretty good for not watching Pixar Movies in a long time. |
Massive Friendly Derg - Unfortunately, the MBs were just for the first three to complete the challenge. I'll try to think of some other fun ways to earn that badge in the future, though! |
