Hi guys. I just have a question. My mum will not let me get the membership...well she might consider it but in the near future it is a big no-no....but anyways if I post 10 items and I want to post another one, what do I do? I really want to continue posting here and I don't know how I'll be able to do that. Also, are there any contests that I can try out here because I absolutely love participating in contests. Sorry for the rather long message and please can you reply as best as you can. Thanks |
Hi Penny and welcome to the best writing site ever. Let me introduce myself Alexi in my port and if you need help getting started, here are a few places to visit "Noticing Newbies" introduced by our Story Mistress who started the site with her husband The story Master 20 years ago and it has been an amazing success. More places to visit are "The Fox's Socks BIRTHDAY PARTYPALOOZA" a great new competition for Newbies with some great prizes. "Newbies ONLY Short Story & Poem Contest" more places to post your writing and log into other newbies. "Contest Clues" a blast and worth delving. I will have a read of your first post and Just want to say welcome Penny. Oh, and if you fill in your Biography it lets others know who you are and what your interests are. See you soon. Alexi |
Here are some things to check out to help you get acclimated: "Writing.Com 101" "Noticing Newbies" "Newbies Academy Registration - OPEN" "WhataLand" Everyone here is very helpful, so feel free to ask questions, anytime! Kindest Regards, Lilli |
Thank you guys for the welcome. I love to read fantasy and horror genres, as well as comedy ones. I also have a question about how many things you can post when you are not in the paid membership. Thanks again for the welcome!! |
Greetings, Penny Withers! You can post on both the Personal and Community Newsfeeds to your heart's content, as well as in the Message Forum for any of the activities you can access. However, you can only hold 10 items in your Portfolio at the Free Membership level. Have a fantastic day! |
Hey guys. I am new here and hope that I can find myself with lots of things that ill enjoy |
WELCOME, Penny Withers! What do you like? Maybe I can point you in the right direction? One beginning suggestion: Click Newsfeed (on the computer, it's along the left side). This will take you to your personal newsfeed. Since you are new, you will probably only see your comment. Once you start fanning and favoriting people (clicking their Plus sign 1 or 2 times--2x is for fan), you'll start seeing what more people post. Anyway, I recommend people ALWAYS click View the Community Newsfeed along the top of the newsfeed (again, on the computer--no idea about the phone lol). This will show you what EVERYONE writes and will give you a chance to see new activities, meet new people, etc. It's a great way to get involved. WELCOME! |
3. Buying memberships with GPs! That's right. If you can't buy a year of Basic with a $20 bill, you can do it with Gift Points. A whole year of Basic membership costs only 199,500 gift points. Being active around the site means you can save up GPs by reviewing and participating in the community. Entering daily contests like the Cramp (linked above!) may help you earn more, as well. That's how I maintained my membership while I was in college. And don't forget the official contests! Every month, Writing.Com hosts a wonderful contest. The prompts are so much fun to write for, and the prizes are unbelievable. (250,000 gift points for third place. And if you think that's impressive, take a look at the first place prize, which is a jaw-dropping 1 million GPs!) This month's contest is "Quotation Inspiration: Official Contest" , but there's a new contest each month. In addition to earning daily review rewards for reviewing (or getting a nice reward for reviewing items using the "Read and Review" feature in the left-hand menu), you can also join reviewing groups on WDC, which not only offer a wonderful community of fellow writers and reviewers but also often reward public reviews affiliated with the group. I'm a member of "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" , and it's a great group of people, but there are tons of amazing groups out there. The best thing about reviewing, of course, is that it helps you improve your own writing, too.
This got a bit long! I hope some of it is useful to you, and I hope you have a fantastic time on the site!
Let me amend that, Penny Withers: If you choose to get a membership and want to enter them, the official contests are super fun and worth trying and may help you maintain an existing membership.
How to Acquire Gift Points from Writing.Com 101 gives many examples, including:
Entering contests to win GPs. For instance, "The Writer's Cramp" gives away 10,000 per day for the best story or poem - just make sure you enter a static item and follow all the rules. "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" as a list of many of the contests on the site.
REVIEW other members. A qualified review of 250 characters will earn you GPs, and if you make the review public and it is a well done review, other members may send you GPs for it.
After you have been here one month, you can "Request An Upgrade From RAOK" if you have 8 items in your portfolio. The upgrade is for 2 months and gives you time to earn more GPs to keep the upgrade.
Hope this helps!
